Setting red carpet records at the Grammys on Sunday night, Carrie Underwood showed up dripping in $31 million worth of diamonds. The 381-carat bling designed by Johnathon Arndt contains oval, pear, marquise and round-cut diamonds, and it sets a new bar for the priciest Grammys jewels ever worn.
Underwood, who is pulling double duty as a presenter and nominee at the 55th annual Grammy awards, paired the extravagant jewels with a black and grey strapless Robert Cavalli gown. The dress showcased the diamonds perfectly, and Underwood kept her blonde hair in simple, loose curls so as not to detract from the ensemble. She told E!'s Ryan Seacrest, "I thought sticking to something glam would be good for tonight."
Of the statement necklace, Underwood told Ryan, "It's worth more than me!"
But she explained to Seacrest that wearing the costly jewels was worrisome, claiming, "It's heavy on my soul. I'm worried someone's going to tackle me."
Underwood's diamonds greatly exceed previous pricey red carpet bling, like Sofia Vergara's $5 million Harry Winston jewels at the 2012 Golden Globes and Jennifer Lopez's $3 million earrings from Winston the year prior.
And like those with exorbitant accessories before her, Underwood is already garnering buzz for being one of the night's best dressed.
